The first thing I need to do is welcome the many new email subscribers that have appeared over the last few weeks.
I stopped using Substack for a while as I focused my attention on establishing a Shopify business for my handmade books and print selections. It is now well set and gathering momentum. The new signups appeared there while I was using its email facility. As to how people came to signup, I’m not sure. Perhaps someone could enlighten me. Would love to know.
If you are a new receiver of this newsletter and would rather not be, then please unsubscribe. It’s very easy to do. And I apologise for your having received this.
Handling email lists is tricky. Especially when moving between platforms as I have. If I have made mistakes then I’m sorry. I can only hope that some of the new signups will stick around.
I have returned to Substack because it has facilities I need for posting video demos of my techniques which have been requested. I cannot do that at Shopify.
I have big plans for 2024 here in the UK, in Germany and in Ireland. They include exhibitions, book collaborations and some teaching. But more on this later.
For now I’d like to show you some photos.
I found myself approaching Bond Street the other night and saw a truck with an empty trailer. The trailer had a car ramp which intrigued me. Noticed a sticker on the side referencing classic cars. Then realised that Bond Street is home to several of the great auction houses. So I stuck around a while.
Sure enough these stunning examples of sublime design and engineering from a previous age started rolling up. Cars designed and built by people, rather than computers and robots. Yes they are nasty fossil fuel guzzlers but they’re also beautiful machines.
They were being rounded up and sent to secure storage for a wealthy collector. A crowd had gathered to relish the things.
And finally…
Some of these images may appear in Passerby 11. Depends on what else I happen upon over the next weeks. Passerby 10 is still available. (Some readers are yet to receive theirs but you’ll have them very soon.)
That’s all for now. I hope everyone enjoys the holiday season. I’ll see you on the other side. Hopefully with a book making demo that you can try yourselves and some new street photography.
Mind yourselves well.
